From Dallas Cowboys to pro golf, Benton football's Witt Van Hoy has been prepped for the spotlight​

When he isn’t in the weight room increasing his stock as a TCU commitment, Benton’s Witt Van Hoy can often be found on the Northwood Hills Golf Club course, yucking it up with buddies like former Evangel lineman Jacob Carpenter or his brother, Brock.

Van Hoy has posted an 80 over 18 holes but is not a perpetual winner in perhaps his favorite sport.

“Mostly he and Brock call me and ask for ‘a brother bonding day sponsored by mom,’ meaning I fund their round of golf,” Van Hoy’s mother, Tracey Barringer, said with a chuckle. “Witt would go play with a stranger, if it meant he got to play a round.”

It doesn’t hurt to have an uncle like former major champion David Toms to hand out an occasional putting tip to the 6-foot-7, 305-pound Van Hoy, who can drive it a country mile but hasn’t mastered the art of finesse around the greens.
