Men's Basketball vs Utah

It's difficult to watch right now. It was another ugly performance. Feel bad for the fans who went. When we win the close ones, it is OK. But it is tough to wash the bad taste out of your mouth after losses. I feel like asking ESPN+ for a refund since this was the reason I subscribed.

Hopefully, this is the bottom and we can rebound. But you have to wonder where the offense is going to come from. It seems like an uphill fight if the other team scores 70.

Hell the NIT is looking shaky at this point. What an absolute disappointment this season has been. I was excited with the transfers we got at the time. Even Dixon was grinning from ear to ear talking about this team in the preseason. But 5 games into conference play, this is likely is going to end up the worst team in the Dixon era.

Really?? It took one look at this lineup to know we wouldn't be competitive this year. You just can't keep up in this league without any formidable size.

We signed a bunch of shooters who apparently can’t shoot now. And I knew Dixon would regret not signing another big.

And Dixon needs to sign a coach who can specifically teach our guys to shoot free throws. We look like a JV team. And VA is a ball hog. He took 15 more shots than the next Frog shooting only 35%.

They can't shoot bc every defender on the floor is taller. When you're 6'3" and the dude opposite you is 3 inches taller, it affects your shot.

Thanks to the Frog fans who attended the game, bad as it was...and to those who posted, critical or otherwise. I'm glad we have some folks who care about MBB. The box score bears out everything that was said. When you're sub-40% from the field (and not heavily concentrated on 3s), and sub-50% from the line, you won't win many, even with fewer than 10 turnovers (Frogs had 8).

Seven blocks for Utah shows that TCU struggles to create space inside. Jamie recruits some athletes who lack polish, and you hope a few pick up the skills to create the time, leverage, and touch to shoot and finish effectively. But time is short for that in the portal era.

Jamie said in his presser that guys were "in and out" all week, they didn't practice much, and he didn't know who he would have available to play. Anyone know what's up with that?

Free throws has been this teams biggest weakness throughout CJD’ s tenure as our coach. Coach can’t go shoot for them. These guys need to put in 2000 free throws a day in practice until they are hitting them with their eyes closed. Good teams make their free throws!

My teenage sons went. Their report: this team isn’t even trying.
I don't think that's fair. They were trying, they just couldn't do anything.
Utah has 4-5 guys that are 6'9"+ and playing. We have two, subbing for each other.
They couldn't hit from outside (35% from 3 pt line), so they tried to go inside where 3 big guys were waiting (37.5% shooting overall).
Having said that, it was the worst performance from a TCU team in recent memory.
Free throws? Would you believe me if I told you that three weeks ago this team hit 26 of 29 against Montana State?

Semi-interesting note: Both teams have a player from Bamako, Mali -- Malick Dialo for the Frogs, Ibi Traore on the Utes (he didn't play).

First time I can remember in a long time that TCU fans booed their team.
This came after missing a pair of free throws and the Frogs were 4 of 13 on free throws at the moment.
First time in a long time for me too, agreed. I was unpleasantly surprised.

Aberrant free throw shooting is bad, we all agree. While we don't shoot them great, last night was an outlier, even for us. Nobody liked the way that game went, nobody.

That said, in my opinion though, we have every right to be sad or displeased, but we gotta be careful of that booing and similar behavior like just trashing these kids online (you never know what gets back to whom.)

Those guys out there physically look like grown ass men, but they're still in their early 20s if not late teens. And I remember being that age. Something like being booed and trashed by grown adults who are supposed to support me would have affected my psyche. Maybe even to this day, but not to that degree.

Also... is there a chicken-and-egg effect? Quite possibly. After all, the Frogs shot felt like 33% from the line, but we the fans probably only filled that place 33% full. That HAS to be disheartening to see for the players as the tip draws close. Yeah, I know, it's not the most entertaining product, even when we win. Hard to get there on time from work for some, I get it. But the BYU game on Saturday was similar. It's not like the Scholl seats 50k. We can do better as fans. We KNOW the team plays better with an excited crowd, we see it in small samples.

We have guys we want to keep for the future on this team. Giving them an empty stadium to play in front of, booing, and then trashing them online - how in the world is that supposed to help retain talent? I say "help" because I know we're not in control of everything. But come on men, we're sure as heck in control of ourselves. And if you're so miserable in general that you feel it's a good idea to come post the 15th version of the same complaint, or boo a bunch of young men who are probably just as frustrated as you, maybe reconsider that possibly it's not.

If only our men's team could play as a team as well as the women do.
It really is a stark contrast. Not just from a skill/effort position, but chemistry as well. The women’s team act like they’re best friends that theyve known their whole life. The men don’t even look like they like each other at times.
