Lubbock A-J: Tech, TCU fight for upper hand in bowl chase

Texas Tech coach Matt Wells and TCU coach Gary Patterson were part of the same football program at Utah State a quarter century ago, Wells as a player, Patterson as a young assistant coach.

On Saturday, they’ll greet each other and then get down to the business of trying to beat each other. This isn’t the time or the place for more than pre-game pleasantries.

For the second Saturday in a row, Tech and its opponent are scrambling to become bowl eligible. The Red Raiders pushed West Virginia to the brink of being eliminated from consideration last week with a 38-17 victory in Morgantown.
