Two weeks after reporting to training camp, the Cincinnati Bengals will knock helmets with the Detroit Lions.

Second-round draft pick Andy Dalton will start at quarterback in Friday night's exhibition at Ford Field.

A lockout that meant no mini-camps or organized off-season workouts has put a premium on learning lessons quickly at a training camp with a decidedly different feel.

"I think it will be interesting to see how we feel after we play the game and how you evaluate where things are," Coach Marvin Lewis said before Tuesday's workout. "Particularly with some of the younger players who don't get quite as much time in practices, and seeing them go out there and play and be able to compete against people with different color helmets and jerseys on as opposed to the everyday practice routine. I think that will be the fun evaluation part of this first week." ...
