Winkler Tabbed MWC Pitcher of the Week
Honor is third of his career
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU right-handed pitcher Kyle Winkler has been tabbed the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Kansas on Saturday. It is the third honor of his career.
Winkler, a native of Sugar Land, Texas, surrendered a lone hit and one unearned run in helping TCU to a 7-1 non-conference win over Kansas last Saturday. The junior right hander retired the side in order in six of the seven innings he pitched, recording eight strikeouts without a walk and facing just one batter over the minimum.
Additionally, Winkler was forced into the lineup and delivered a key sacrifice bunt. With runners on first and third and nobody out in the fifth inning, Winkler dropped down a perfect sacrifice bunt to drive in the go-ahead run.
Winkler was twice tabbed the MWC Pitcher of the Week in 2010. He earned his first honor on April 19 for his performance at BYU. His second honor came on May 24 for his performance against Cal State Bakersfield.
