Smith Garners All-America Honors
Junior Ashley Smith becomes the fourth All-American in program history.
 
FORT WORTH, Texas – The final postseason honors were announced on Wednesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), as junior Ashley Smith earned Honorable Mention All-America honors.
 
Smith, a League City, Texas native, becomes the fourth player in program history and first since 2009 to garner All-America honors. Smith earned a spot on the honorable mention team after being named to the AVCA All-Southwest Region First Team.
 
“This award is indicative to all the hard work every member of our team has put in,” Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said. “It is great for Ashley to be recognized for her performance throughout the 2015 season. Along with the rest of her teammates, Ashley is committed to learning and growing daily. She embodies all the characteristics that you look for in an outstanding teammate. Her numbers were very steady throughout the season and especially against ranked opponents.”
 
A key starter on a TCU team that advanced to its second NCAA Championship in program history in 2015, Smith was the offensive leader all throughout the season and finished with a team-high 294 kills and 2.91 kills per set. Smith also led the team in service aces with 0.26 per set, while she has also picked up 2.88 digs per set 0.63 blocks per set.
 
The junior led the team in kills in 11 matches this season and recorded a team-high 12 double-doubles. Smith finished the season ranked in the top-10 in three Big 12 categories – kills per set, points per set and service aces. Smith was also named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, All-Big 12 Second Team and earned spots on three all-tournament teams this fall.
 
TCU finished the 2015 season by advancing to the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where they fell in a tight five-set battle with No. 7 Hawaii. The Frogs finished the season with an overall record of 19-10 and 9-7 in Big 12 action.
