GoFrogs: Volleyball powers past SMU

FORT WORTH, Texas – Double-digit team blocks and a strong offensive presence by senior Anna Walsh propelled the TCU volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 25-27, 25-21) victory over Metroplex rival SMU on Thursday evening in the opening match of Fight in the Fort presented by Aloft Fort Worth Downtown at The Rickel inside the University Recreation Center.

The Horned Frogs (5-3) got out to a fast start in the first two sets to easily take the 2-0 lead in the match over the Mustangs (1-5). Sitting at match point in the third set, errors by TCU caused SMU to steal the set and force a fourth. The Frogs did not back down from the challenge and regained control of the match by totaling 16 kills and two blocks in the final frame to finish it out in four sets.

Walsh got back to her consistent ways with 19 kills in the match to go along with a .444 hitting clip and a team-best 7.0 blocks. Freshman élan McCall totaled double-digit kills for the eighth straight match and also scored her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and 11 digs. Sarah Swanson also scored double-digit kills with 11, while freshman Katie Clark chipped in a career-high nine kills. Defensively, the Frogs had four people in double-digit digs with Lexi MacLean and Dani Dennison leading the way with 17 a piece.
