DALLAS -- TCU's KaVontae Turpin has received Freshman All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America.
 
Turpin was named to the squad as a kickoff returner. The true freshman from Monroe, La., was second in the Big 12 and tied for 14th nationally with his 27.0 average, the highest mark by a Horned Frog since All-American Greg McCoy in 2011 (30.6).
 
Turpin was the only player in the nation this season to rank in the top 25 in kickoff returns and punt returns. His 10.6 average on punt returns was 23rd in the FBS. He returned a punt 49 yards for a touchdown versus Kansas.
 
Turpin set TCU freshman records with his 45 receptions, 649 yards and eight touchdown catches. The eight receiving scores tied for second nationally among freshmen. His final two touchdown grabs were an 86-yard catch at Oklahoma and the game-winning 8-yard grab in the second overtime against Baylor.
 
Turpin's four touchdown catches in a 50-7 win over Texas were the most by a freshman in Big 12 history. It tied for the most in a game by an FBS player this season and was the highest by a freshman. He totaled six catches for 138 yards on the day. He also topped the 100-yard mark with seven grabs for 107 yards at Oklahoma State.
 
Turpin averaged 15.3 yards each time he touched the ball this season.
