TCU's Crespo Sets Three Personal Bests at World Championships

Frog senior-to-be suited up against the world's best

SHANGHAI – TCU senior Edgar Crespo set three personal bests over the past week at the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships.

Crespo competed in four events at the meet, which featured the world’s best swimmers, taking down his own personal best in the 50-breaststroke, 100-breaststroke and 200-breaststroke. He also suited up in the 100-butterfly.

For the 50-breast, Crespo notched a time of 28.15 in the 50-meter Olympic-size pool to better his previous personal best of 28.32. Crespo was just .15 from cracking the top 16 and qualifying for the semifinals. He is currently ranked 50th in the world in that event.

The Panama City, Panama, native swam the 100-breast in 1:01.94, shattering his previous personal-best time of 1:03.07. That time is good for No. 78 in the world for 2011.

Crespo’s final personal best in the 200-breast was a 2:17.38 to knock off his earlier best of 2:17.48.

The next international event for Crespo will be the 2011 Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico on Oct. 14-30. Crespo is the TCU record holder in the 100- and 200-breast and has qualified for the NCAA Championship each of the last two years.
