LIVE RESULTS (GOLFSTAT.COM)

TUCSON, Ariz.—TCU grabbed a share of second place Thursday to conclude the opening round of play at the Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championships. The tournament continues Friday and Saturday at OMNI Tucson National Resort.

The Horned Frogs, who combined to shoot a 1-under-par 283 to match BYU for the No. 2 position in the team race, trail tournament leader San Diego State by five strokes (-6) entering Friday's second round. TCU is looking to win its second MWC championship in the past three seasons to go along with the crow it won in 2009.

Junior Johan de Beer regrouped from a slow start to lead TCU during Round 1, finishing the afternoon tied for seventh place in the individual standings at -1 (70). The Pretoria, South Africa, native was 4-over-par on the front nine before catching fire in the second half of his round. An eagle on the par-5 511-yard 10th hole got things started for de Beer, while he played 3-under golf over the final five holes to finish the day within five strokes of tournament leaderGabe Maier (Wyoming), who shot 65 (-6).

Junior Eli Cole, sophomore Pontus Gad and senior Tom Hoge each finished in an eight-player logjam for 10th place at even par (71) to conclude the TCU scoring. Sophomore Daniel Jennevret will enter Round 2 in a tie for 22nd place following a Thursday 73 (+2).

Competition at the MWC Men's Golf Championship continues Friday, with first the first group scheduled to tee off at 7:30 a.m. PT. Live coverage is available throughout the tournament at Golfstat.com.
