TCU Camp '11: Frogs Begin New Era At Quarterback

Pachall to be TCU's first opening-day starting quarterback not named Dalton since 2006

FORT WORTH, Texas -- GoFrogs.com concludes its position-by-position preview of the 2011 TCU football team with a look at the quarterbacks.

With the graduation of Andy Dalton and his 42 wins at TCU, Casey Pachall (6-5, 216, So.) takes over as the Horned Frogs' starting quarterback.

A four-star recruit out of Brownwood, Texas, Pachall appeared in eight games last season. His most significant action came in the regular-season finale at New Mexico, when he replaced an injured Dalton in the first half and passed and ran for touchdowns in helping lead the Horned Frogs to victory.

For the season, Pachall completed 6-of-9 passes (66.7 percent) for 78 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He added 94 yards rushing and two scores on a 6.3 per carry mark.

Competing with Pachall are Matt Brown (6-1, 185, RFr.) and Trevone Boykin (6-2, 215, Fr.).

Brown, who redshirted last season in his first fall on campus, was ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 11 dual-threat quarterback in the nation coming out of Allen, Texas. He was also ranked the fourth-best scrambling quarterback.

As a senior at Allen, Brown passed for 2,412 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 1,166 yards and 17 scores.

Boykin, from Mesquite, Texas, was the No. 24 dual-threat quarterback in the nation for the Class of 2011. He ran for 1,799 yards and 30 touchdowns for West Mesquite High School last year. He completed 60.7 percent of his passes with 28 touchdowns.
