GoFrogs: Horned Frogs Advance to Elite Eight
CARY, N.C. – TCU withstood an attacking Georgetown offense and an ill-timed weather delay to advance to the Elite Eight on penalty kicks, 3-1, in a 1-1 tie Wednesday at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Sophomore Michelle Slater scored the Horned Frogs' only goal in the 77th minute to tie the game. Senior Emily Alvarado totaled seven saves and came through so many times with big stops, including two penalty kicks.

The Rundown
Much like TCU's second round game against New Mexico, Georgetown (12-0-2) controlled much of the first half. After two early shots by the Horned Frogs, the Hoyas had the game's next six shots and the sixth was the game's first goal. A high shot deflected off the cross bar and to the leg of Georgetown's Maya Fernandez-Powell in the 31st minute.

TCU only had a couple good looks in the first half. One was from Yazmeen Ryan that went right of the post and another was by Maddy Warren that was struck right to the Hoya goalkeeper. Georgetown took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

After a couple brilliant saves by Alvarado, TCU got on the board in the 77th minute. Slater scored from 12 feet out off a pass from Ryan. Moments later, Ryan had a great look at the go-ahead goal, but her strike hit the right post.

After no shot attempts by either team in the first overtime, Georgetown controlled much of the second overtime period, outshooting TCU, 5-0.

With rain pouring down, the Hoyas connected on its first penalty kick attempt. As lightning moved into the area, the game moved into a delay for nearly an hour. With no locker rooms at the facility, both teams had to go to their busses for shelter.

When the penalty kicks resumed, TCU made all three of its attempts (Ryan, Grace Collins, Warren) and Georgetown missed its next three. The second and third Hoya attempts were stopped by Alvarado and the fourth hit off the post.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell

On the game:
"We started off pretty well. The first 15 minutes we did really well and then they came back and kind of bossed the rest of the half. We were on our heels and then they scored. Again, we have to go into the locker room and challenge the team to be better. We were much better in the second half."

On deciding the game with penalty kicks:
"With the PKs, we have been practicing them and practicing them. Emily (Alvarado) was phenomenal. She was absolutely fantastic. You only ask your goalkeeper to come up with one and she came up with two and then one hit the post. You can't ask for more than that. We were clinical on our finishes and able to see the game out and advance on. I'm really proud of the group. We are making history and continue to make history with the elite eight and hopefully we can make it to the final four."

On the timing of the weather delay, one kick into PKs:
"I've been in weather delays but not with the stakes like this. Our team was loose on the bus and we came out and had a good warm up and took care of business in the PKs.
