Notes On A Scorecard

TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte discusses the hot topics around the Horned Frogs

GO TIM! It's been great to see the support for TCU's own Tim Halperin on American Idol. Tim has been an integral part of the partnership between TCU athletics and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The theme for this year's TCU baseball team is "We Fight Back," the name of Tim's song to support cancer research. The inspiration for the song came from breast cancer survivor testimonials. Tim is one of American Idol's 12 male finalists, and we'll learn tomorrow if he makes it to the final five.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

Impact DataSource, an Austin, Texas, economic consulting and research firm, recently conducted an economic impact analysis that showed TCU's athletics program accounted for $61.5 million in economic activity in the Fort Worth area in 2009. In addition, the athletics program supported 378 area jobs and annual salaries of $29.2 million. The purpose of the analysis was to determine the impact that TCU's athletics program had on the economy of Tarrant County, the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the state of Texas. The related revenues for Fort Worth and other local taxing districts were also calculated. The direct economic impact of TCU athletics derives from the program's spending as well as its employees, their salaries and sports spectators. The activity ripples through the area's economy supporting indirect benefits, including sales in local businesses and organizations, as well as indirect jobs and salaries.

CHECK THE MAILBOX

Keep an eye out for a mid-March mailing concerning season tickets and Frog Club donor parking renewals for the 2011 football season. There will also be information on a club seat pre-sale for the 2012 season. We have received very strong interest in the 2,300 club seats that we'll have available. Along those lines, we still have three suites remaining on the west side of Amon G. Carter Stadium. For more information, please contact TCU associate athletics director Davis Babb at d.babb@tcu.edu or (817) 257-5658.

RAISING FUNDS

We are hopeful of completing fundraising to renovate the east side of Amon G. Carter Stadium after the 2011 season. As part of the project, we would incorporate an east plaza that would include a Circle of Excellence with an academic component recognizing our endowed scholarship donors.

TRAVELING IN STYLE

Thanks to a $100,000 donation by Peter Courtney, our men's tennis team is now traveling in a new state-of-the-art van. It's very similar to our women's golf van that former Frog and current LPGA star Angela Stanford made possible.

NEW DIGS

The TCU Frog Club has moved into its new office, located in Suite 101 of the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. It's right next to the TCU Ticket Office for added convenience for everyone.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR

Our annual Charles Coody Classic is April 22 at Texas Star Golf Club in Euless. We'll have shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Come tee it up with a Masters champion who just happens to be a TCU alum. Sign up at www.tcufrogclub.com.

TWO FOR TUESDAYS

Make sure to take advantage of the Two for Tuesdays for each Tuesday home game at Lupton Stadium. For just $10, you can receive two general admission tickets to see our top-10 ranked Horned Frogs on the diamond.

THE PLACE TO BE

Did you know that the top-six crowds in our baseball program's history were the opening six home games this season?

CONGRATULATIONS

We had some impressive performances at last week's Mountain West Conference Championships for indoor track and field and swimming and diving. Jessica Young, a standout for our nationally-ranked women's indoor track team, received the MWC's High Point Award and Outstanding Female Performance Award. In addition to winning the 200 meters and anchoring our gold medal 4x400 relay, Jessica ran a 7.17 in the 60 meters for the second-best time in the nation this year. Overall, we won seven individual titles in indoor track and field. We broke 23 school records at the MWC Swimming and Diving Championships, including Sabine Rasch becoming just our second female to win an MWC individual title.

SENIOR NIGHT

Please make plans to be in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum tonight at 6:30 p.m. for our women's basketball game with Air Force. We'll be paying tribute to an outstanding senior class of Emily Carter, Micah Garoutte, Rachel Rentschler and Helena Sverrisdottir as they play their final home game. With 85 victories over the last four seasons, they rank among our winningest classes in program history. It's also Jersey Night. Any kid wearing a jersey will be admitted free to the DMC.

BACK-TO-BACK?

Our defending national champion rifle team was one of eight squads selected to this year's NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ga. Competition begins March 11 for head coach Karen Monez and the wonderful student-athletes in her program.

Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback.
