GoFrogs: No. 3 TCU Blanks BYU, 5-0

FORT WORTH - After playing seven matches on the road, No. 3 TCU made the most of long-awaited return to the purple courts of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs blanked BYU 5-0 on Thursday, improving their season record to 17-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.

TCU clinched the doubles point with victories at two and three, then made quick work of the Cougars (11-8, 0-5 Big 12) in singles, pairing sweeps on the top-half with a straight set win on court five. The Horned Frogs did not surrender a set in singles play.

"Nice to be back home," said head coach David Roditi. "We were able to squeak the doubles out and then took care of four more matches in singles. Great to be home, great to be back on our campus and playing in front of our fans. Great showing from our fans. They were a little on the quiet side. We want to hear a little more rowdiness out of our crowd but nonetheless, great atmosphere. A lot of parents visited today. I thought the guys were very proud to play in front of them and were classy. Now we've got Texas Tech on Saturday here at home. It's going to be another tough conference match and we'll keep taking them one at a time. Go Frogs."

TCU improved to 9-1 all-time vs. the Cougars. Thursday's match was the first in 14 seasons between the former Mountain West turned Big 12 foes.

Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted, 70th in the latest ITA rankings, struck first on court two, rolling over Jack Barnett and Redd Owen via a 6-2 margin. The tandem snared their 12th win of the dual season. BYU evened doubles play at one set apiece after TCU's Jack Pinnington and Pedro Vives fell 6-4 on one to Zach Fuchs and Wally Thayne. The Cougar pair picked up a break point with the match gridlocked at four games all.

With the deciding match coming down to court three, Tomas Jirousek and Kaj Quirijns prevailed for the Horned Frogs.
