Men's Tennis Starts Strong at Hidden Dual
Nick Chappell earned his first win over a ranked opponent on day one.

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team posted 12 wins and only one loss against Indiana on the first day of the UCF Hidden Dual in Orlando, Fla., Thursday morning.

"I thought we had great energy and enthusiasm in our doubles matches today," coach David Roditi said. "With a new scoring format, this tournament presented a great opportunity to practice no-ad scoring and the tiebreaker starting at 5-5. It was great to see our freshmen start the season with a win and Nick Chappell got a solid win against a ranked opponent today."

The Horned Frogs began the day by sweeping all four of the doubles matches against the Hoosiers. The No. 11 doubles team of Nick Chappell and Will Stein were victorious against Sven Lalic and Dimitrije Tasi, 6-5(6), while Trey Daniel and Arnau Dachs defeated Stefan Lugonjic and Chris Essick 6-3 to round out the matches in the Black Group.

In the Gold Group, Hudson Blake and Facundo Lugones easily won against Elliott Yee and Alekzander Davila, 6-1. Blake Wiggins teamed with newcomer Jhonatan Gonzalez to take down Matthew McCoy and Michael Sellito 6-3 in the final doubles match.

Chappell led the Black Group in singles action with his first victory over a ranked opponent in 2014 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 80 Lalic. Dachs and Lugones rounded out the Black Group, with Dachs defeating Tasic 6-1, 6-0 and Lugones beating Yee 6-4, 6-5(6).

TCU continued their winning streak into the Gold Group with Daniel and Alfonzo taking down Lugonjic 6-2, 6-1 and Kellen Bates 6-4, 6-4, respectively. Blake was victorious over McCoy 6-4 in the first set and had to battle back from losing the second set 6-0 to take the final set 6-5(2) to win his match.

In the final group, Gonzalez earned his first singles victory over Essick 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, while Will Stein defeated Davila 6-4, 6-1. Wiggins suffered TCU's only loss of the day as he fell to Sellito 6-1, 6-4 in the Silver Group.

The Horned Frogs continue competition at the UCF Hidden Dual tomorrow with doubles and singles action against No. 48 Louisville. Results and a recap will be available on GoFrogs.com following the completion of the competition for the day.
