FORT WORTH, Texas – A complete performance across doubles and singles led the No. 6 TCU men’s tennis team to a 4-1 victory in the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship second round over No. 33 Florida State on Saturday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center as the Horned Frogs advance to the Round of 16 for the third straight season.

The Frogs (21-4) got their 16th straight victory of the season by starting out the match against the Seminoles (18-12) with a dominant performance in doubles. All three courts were up breaks with Cameron Norrie and Trevor Johnson getting their ninth victory of the season with a 6-2 win on court three. The No. 25 pair of Jerry Lopez and Reese Stalder finished out the doubles point as they took down the No. 58 pair of Aziz Dougaz and Guy Iradukunda, 6-2, at the top position.

In his final match on the purple courts at TCU, No. 1 Norrie capped off his career with a nearly unstoppable performance at the top spot by downing Dougaz, 6-1, 6-0. Florida State took a straight-set win on court three for its lone point of the match before the Frogs took straight-set wins on courts five and two to get the victory. Stalder won his fourth straight match on court five while No. 20 Alex Rybakov won his 20th straight match with a 6-2, 7-5 win on court two.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
“I am ecstatic to be going to the Sweet 16. That is the goal of every tennis program is to make it to the ‘Omaha’ of college tennis in Athens. It will be a great experience. Whoever we play is going to be tough. This is where we were last year and we fell short. We all know it and we are coming to Athens with a competitive mindset and hopefully give ourselves the best preparation to compete on Thursday. I thought today we played some really good doubles and then we got on top of them in almost every first set in singles. I thought that was key because it put them down on the road and it is hard to come back when you get down like that. Cameron Norrie did a great job of getting off the court and then we kind of lost a little bit of our focus there. It took us awhile to get our third and fourth points but we bounced back. As a coach, you know not everything is going to go perfectly and it didn’t. We handled it and we regained our focus and we were able to get the wins. It was great to see Reese (Stalder) get two wins in singles and doubles. It was a great day for him. It was a very special day and on behalf of TCU tennis, we want to wish Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there.”
