TCU Rounds Up the Bulls, 4-3

The Horned Frogs remain undefeated at home with an 11-0 record.

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas -- In front of the largest crowd of the season, the No. 10 TCU men's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 victory over No. 22 USF to mark the team's 11th victory over a ranked opponent on Saturday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs (17-6) were stunned when the Bulls (14-5) stormed back from being eight match points down in doubles to steal the doubles point from TCU. The Frogs responded by claiming four straight-set singles matches to take the match back and remain undefeated at home with an 11-0 record.

"I couldn't be more impressed and proud of the way our guys responded to the adversity of having a doubles point ripped out of our paws," head coach David Roditi. "I give credit to the USF doubles team for that one. We had a choice and the guys responded the way any coach would ideally want them to respond. There were great performances by all our singles players and especially Cameron (Norrie), Facundo (Lugones) and Will Stein. Arnau (Dachs) could not have closed out the match any better. He was so professional and confident in the way he handled it.

"Today was also a beautiful sight with all of our families that brought their children and a huge thanks goes out to Sharon Keenum for putting together that magnificent Easter Egg Hunt. Now we will prepare for our cross-town rivals (SMU) at what I hear is an amazing new facility."

TCU jumped out to an early win in doubles action with No. 18 Trevor Johnson and Cameron Norrie claiming their third straight victory with a 6-1 defeat of Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy. USF did not back down and won the match on court three, 6-4, to even out the battle for the doubles point.

With the decision coming down to court one, the No. 19 pair of Nick Chappell and Will Stein were up, but the No. 36 duo of Oliver Pramming and Justin Roberts did not give up and fought off eight match points to send the match into a tiebreaker. The Bulls came out of the tiebreaker victorious to steal the doubles point and take the early 1-0 lead in the match.

After dropping the doubles point, TCU faced one huge challenge and rose to the occasion as they won the first set on five of the six courts. Senior Facundo Lugones captured the first point for the Frogs and his sixth straight victory by taking down Kalyuzhnyy, 6-1, 6-2 on court five for his 15th win of the season.

No. 37 Norrie followed in Lugones' footsteps and grabbed his 18th win of the season on court three by defeating Pramming, 6-1, 6-4 to put TCU up 2-1. Stein made it 3-1 for the Frogs by taking care of his opponent on court six, 6-2, 6-4 for his 19th victory of the season.

The clincher in the comeback for TCU would come down to court four, as senior Arnau Dachs finished off his opponent, 6-4, 6-4 to seal the victory for the Frogs.

With the match already decided, USF was able to take wins on courts one and two to make the final score of the match, 4-3.

TCU will go on the road and face Metroplex rival, SMU, on Wednesday, April 8 at 6 p.m., in Dallas, Texas.
