FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU safety Tyler Luttrell is a Junior Achievement volunteer in a first-grade class at Juan Seguin Elementary School in his hometown of Weatherford.

Luttrell started nine games for the Horned Frogs last season. He was moved from wide receiver midway through preseason camp and recorded a sack in his first game on defense in the season-opening 30-14 victory at Virginia.

Luttrell placed seventh on TCU with 35 tackles. His first career interception was a diving grab at San Diego State. It was one of the Top Plays of the Day on ESPN.

The son of former TCU standout running back Mike Luttrell (1972-74), the younger Luttrell also made an impact on special teams. He forced a fumble on kickoff coverage in the opening minutes of the 55-28 win over Utah.

Luttrell is majoring in entrepreneurial management in TCU's Neeley School of Business.

Junior Achievement is a not-for-profit organization financed by businesses, foundations and individuals. Its purpose is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives.

No disrespect to the young man, I am sure he is doing a great job, but they are throwing the term "hero" loosely these days.

The whole of our language usage is becoming more muddled every day (or year, you pick). T. Luttrell is certainly a role model; that might work better.

Regardless - "good on him"!

You have to consider that it's Weatherford.
The same Weatherford who played its "Super Bowl" in September last year.

FWIW, have a friend whose daughter dated Luttrell. Said he was a true gentleman. High praise for a youngster from a parent.

Yeah. Role Model for sure sounds true to the situation. But to use the same word as people who give their lives for our country?!?

I just hate most journalism these days.

I just hate most message board posters these days.

Me, too.

words can have multiple definitions. A hero can be someone who displays courage in face of danger. A hero can also just be someone a first grader looks up to. There are many sports "heroes" who never did anything courageous.

A hero can also be a sandwich

Yes, and many who did things illegal.

Muddled. Not clear. Misleading and cheapening to those who have actually done something heroic.
