ARLINGTON, Texas - Sophomore's Agnes Kemboi and Alex De La Garza both crossed the finish line in first-place on Saturday to close a dominating day for the TCU cross country program at the UTA Season Opener.

"I am very pleased with our performance today," said distance coach Shawn Winget. "We really stepped up on both sides, which is great. I saw some improvement today, which we need as we get ready for the Cowboy Jamboree in a few weeks."

Kemboi, a Kenya native, followed up her season-opening third-place showing at the Bear Twilight Invitational, bringing home first-place accolades on Saturday with a two-mile time of 11:07.29. On the men's side, De La Garza made his first outing in a TCU uniform a memorable one, winning the men's four-mile race at Vandergriff Park with a time of 20:16.93.

"Agnes really ran well today, while Alex looked really good and proved that he will definitely be a solid runner for us this season," said Winget.

The win for both Kemboi and De La Garza marked the first time under Winget that the Horned Frogs have claimed both the men's and women's individual titles at a meet. It also marked the first time since 2001 that the Purple and White have recorded first-place finishes on both sides. In 2001, former Frog greats Glady's Keitany and Eliud Njubi placed first overall at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships.

Overall, TCU captured the women's team title on Saturday with 32 points, finishing ahead of SMU, UTA, Baylor and North Texas. The win for the Horned Frogs was the first women's team title since winning the North Texas Opener in 2008. On the men's side, the Frogs earned runner-up accolades with 62 points. Baylor won the overall team title with 31 points.

Sophomore Tricia Terry was the second Horned Frog to cross the finish line in Arlington, placing fourth with a time of 11:26.68. Amanda Throckmorton and Paige Throckmorton followed in seventh and eighth-place, respectively, with times of 11:32.47 and 11:40.83.

Finally, junior Kelly Dawson and sophomore Katie Dalton led the next pack of Frogs', placing within the top 15 on Saturday by clocking 12th and 14th-place showings out of 51 competitors.

Following De La Garza's first-place showing on the men's side, Jeff Pels, a senior from Coppell, recorded a fourth-place finish with a time of 21:03.62. Jake Rossmango also had a strong outing in Arlington, collecting 13th-place on Saturday, while Tim Wang closed TCU's top placings, finishing 20th overall out of 45 competitors.

TCU will have a week off before traveling to Stillwater, Okla., for the Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday, Sept. 25.
