ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Gustav Frimodt had one of the best rounds of his career to move up 19 spots to a tie for second place at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Monday.
The senior shot 1-under 71 in the opening round at the UNM Championship Course before finishing the second round 6-under 66. It was the second best vs. par in the Dane's TCU career and second-best of the day. Frimodt made six birdies, including consecutively on holes 18, 1 and 2.
Coming off co-medalist honors in the season-opener at TPC San Antonio, Frimodt holds a World Amateur Ranking of 24. His score of 7-under 137 is tied with Jakob Melin (-7) of San Francisco who shot 7-under 65 in the second round. Tyran Snyders (-9) of Texas Tech leads the field, which includes 20 teams.
Freshman Andrew Petruzzelli had rounds of 3-under 69 and even-par 72 over the 36-hole day. He is tied for 15th place and is in position for his second-straight top 20 finish.
Jack Beauchamp had rounds of 1-over 73 and is tied for 49th place.
TCU is tied for seventh place at 6-under 570. The final round will take place on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. CT.
