INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- TCU dropped a 65-7 decision to No. 1 Georgia Monday night in the College Football Playoff National Championship at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
The Horned Frogs (13-2) were just the third team since 1998 to play in a national title game after being unranked in the preseason. TCU tied a program record with its 13 wins this season, equaling the 2010 team that went 13-0 en route to winning the Rose Bowl.
TCU became the first team from the state of Texas to make the CFP and the first from the Big 12 Conference to play in the CFP National Championship. The Horned were the first Big 12 team to play for a national title since Texas in 2009.
After falling behind 10-0, TCU answered with a 5 play, 75-yard scoring drive to close within 10-7 on a Max Duggan 2-yard touchdown run with 4:45 to play in the first quarter. The key play on the drive was a 60-yard completion from Duggan to Derius Davis, setting up the TCU quarterback's carry into the end zone on a 3rd-and-1.
The 60-yard completion from Duggan to Davis was TCU's 22nd play this season of 50-plus yards, tops in the nation. Duggan's touchdown run was the 28th of his career, tying him with Jim Swink (1954-56) for sixth all-time at TCU.
Davis had a team-best five receptions for 101 yards, the third 100-yard game of his career.

Offense
*Max Duggan made his 43rd career start.
*Duggan's 2-yard scoring run was the 28th of his career, tying him with Jim Swink (1954-56) for sixth all-time at TCU.
*Derius Davis had a team-best five receptions for 101 yards, his first 100-yard receiving game of the season and third of his career.
*Playing in his hometown of Inglewood, Calif., Emari Demercado started at running back in the absence of an injured Kendre Miller and rushed for a team-best 59 yards on 14 carries.
Defense
*Millard Bradford, Jamoi Hodge and Dee Winters tied for the team lead with seven tackles.
*Johnny Hodges and Dylan Horton had tackles for loss.
Special Teams
*Jordy Sandy placed one punt inside the 20, giving him 17 on the year. He is donating $20 to Fort Worth's Hope Center for Autism for every punt inside the 20-yard line and is now at $340 for the season.
