Boyce Named To FWAA Freshman All-America Team

Standout wide receiver set a TCU freshman record with his team-high 646 receiving yards

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- TCU wide receiver Josh Boyce has been named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team. It's the third Freshman All-America honor for Boyce. He was also named a Freshman All-American by CollegeFootballNews.com and Rivals.com.

A native of Copperas Cove, Texas, Boyce set a TCU freshman record with his team-high 646 receiving yards (19.0 average). His 34 receptions and six touchdown catches were second on the Horned Frogs. The 34 grabs were the most by a TCU freshman since Cory Rodgers' 37 in 2003.

A 44-yard Boyce reception set up TCU's go-ahead score in the 21-19 Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.

Boyce topped 100 yards in receiving twice. He recorded a season-best eight catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-3 win over BYU. The 127 yards were the most by a TCU freshman since Rodgers had 171 on six grabs at Houston in 2003. It was also the highest total by a Horned Frog since Jimmy Young's school-record 226 yards versus Wyoming in 2008.

Boyce also had three receptions for 126 yards and a pair of scores, including a 93-yard strike from Andy Dalton, in a 47-7 victory at Utah.

Boyce started seven games and had at least one reception in 12 of 13 contests.

TCU defensive end Stansly Maponga has also received Freshman All-America honors this season, giving Gary Patterson 13 Freshman All-Americans in his 10-year tenure as head coach.

He deserved it. I knew it when first saw him at a summer practice his redshirt freshman year. He was running back kickoffs and was he ever big and fast. It was obvious to me, this was no average cat...
