FWST: TCU's Gipson jumps to MWC indoor title

TCU junior Whitney Gipson won the women's long jump championship Friday as the Mountain West Conference indoor meet began in Albuquerque.

Gipson, from Birdville High School, jumped 20 feet, 41/4 inches, and TCU also took third in the event with freshman Samantha Collins going 19-4.

TCU's men also placed in the long jump, with Richard Knotts taking third (23-4). ...

TCU set five school records Friday at the Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championship in Oklahoma City, giving it 15 records going into the meet's final day.

Junior Laszlo Gyurko broke his own record in the 100 backstroke prelims in a MWC-record 47.44, then finished third in the finals in 47.63. Edgar Crespo was second in the 100 breaststroke in 53.35, just off his TCU record. ...

TCU women's tennis: The Frogs (1-3) were beaten 4-3 by Washington (8-4) at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Singles winners for TCU were Olivia Smith (No. 3), Idunn Hertzberg (No. 5) and Shalini Sahoo (No. 6).

TCU men's tennis: The Frogs (2-5) took the doubles point, but were beaten 5-2 on their home court by Mississippi State. Only Emanuel Brighiu managed to score a singles point, beating George Coupland 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1.
