TCU
Sure, the Frogs aren't going to a bowl. And no matter what they do against Baylor, they're guaranteed to have an overall losing record in their first two years in the Big 12. But they are in the Big 12 now, for which they should be thankful. The Big 12 brings more money, more exposure and much more stability -- even if the conference has two fewer teams than its name indicates. So long as Gary Patterson is around, things will turn around. This year will have a short entry in the TCU almanac, but nevertheless, history under Patterson says the Frogs will be just fine in the long run. Even in a down year, just being in the Big 12 gives TCU much more recruiting ammo than it would have in is previous conference. And speaking of that Mountain West, do you really think TCU could have this two-year stretch in the MWC and then get an invitation to the Big 12? Not hardly. TCU joined the Big 12 on the strength of its football program. So if anything, the downturn couldn't have been timed any better. Had this rash of injuries and player departures come years before, it's hard to believe TCU would be part of the Big 12 at this day and time.
