Daily Skiff: No. 10 Frogs land 8-4 victory over UNLV Sunday

No. 10 TCU turned three double plays in the final four innings and helped the Frogs take the 2-1 series victory with an 8-4 win over UNLV Sunday in Las Vegas, Nev. Senior second baseman Jerome Pena and senior first baseman Joe Weik led the Frogs offense with four hits each and Pena drove in three runs.

Senior starting pitcher Steven Maxwell (2-0) pitched five-plus innings on Sunday to earn the win. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits, walked two and struck out two. Senior pitcher Trent Appleby held the Rebels in check for three innings. He allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out one. Junior Erik Miller pitched a scoreless ninth inning, giving up a lone hit.

TCU picked up where it left off on Saturday night, scoring three runs on four hits in the first inning. Junior right fielder Brance Rivera led off the game with his fifth home run of the season to start the offensive charge. Frogs' junior short stop Taylor Featherston drove a one-out double to the gap in left center, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior left fielder Jason Coats. ...
