Daily Oklahoman: TCU coach Gary Patterson doesn’t think much about 2005 upset at Oklahoma
Posted by Jason Kersey
DALLAS — TCU coach Gary Patterson was asked about his program’s 2005 win at Oklahoma, which was ranked in the top 10 at the time.
“Are you trying to make coach Stoops mad at me?” Patterson said.
The Horned Frogs came to Norman and shocked the Sooners 17-10 in the 2005 season opener, snapping a long home winning streak.
The year before, TCU didn’t make a bowl game — the only season in the last 14 that the Horned Frogs didn’t qualify for postseason play.
“That was going to be my fourth year as a head coach,” Patterson said. “What was going to be my trademark of how to handle adversity?”
Still, Patterson said he doesn’t often think about that game, even with the two teams now in the same conference.
“You’ve got to learn from history, but the bottom line to it is you can’t look back too long,” Patterson said.
