Concerts at ACS?!?

UTx in the old days, had at least 1 ZZ Top concert. Absolutely packed the stadium. Not only did the crowd leave lots and lots of garbage in the stadium (a relatively easy fix; it is a stadium after all), they managed to do considerable damage to the artificial turf. Caused a problem with the athletic administration for the promoters.

This was before anyone had ever dreamed of legal NIL. IIRC the concert was to benefit the university radio station, KUT.

For what any of the above is worth.

That was on September 15, 1974, a concert called "ZZ Top's First Annual Texas Size Rompin' Stompin' Barn Dance and Bar-B-Q." The event featured several popular acts of the time, including Santana and Joe Cocker, along with ZZ Top headlining. This concert is remembered as one of the most iconic rock events in Texas history, drawing a massive crowd of over 80,000 people. It helped solidify ZZ Top’s place as Texas music legends.

I can’t see TCU ever holding a concert in Amon Carter, too loud for the neighborhood. Just look at Lupton. TCU built it with home plate facing the wrong way so the outfield lights wouldn’t bother the home owners.

Homeplate should be where the outfield is currently is but that would cause the outfield lights to shine towards the houses on W. Berry. So TCU built it in its current orientation to placate the neighborhood.

Why should it?
Most of the baseball season has prevailing winds from the south so the wind is blowing in. If the stadium were reoriented with the wind blowing out, it would be more of a hitters park. I'm not personally sure why that is "better" although I guess people like offense and HR's. It may impede recruiting of hitters who are looking for something more hitter friendly to put up stats but is inviting to pitchers so....
