Why do it this early?
To put some real numbers in front of schools that are trying figure out what to do. Pac mouthpiece journalists have written that the Pac has an advantage of being in talks for a contact now whereas the Big 12 is only shopping consultant projections.

I'm wondering if ESPN isn't figuring out that for the same amount of money they would spend on the Pac 12 and Big 12 they could have a late night window of Big Ten football featuring the top of the current Pac 12 plus an expanded Big 12 that includes most of the rest.

Totally agree ! We the Media and the 2 leagues(B12/P12) know exactly where all this is going and the outlook.

At the University of Iowa’s monthly Presidential Committee on Athletics meeting, Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said it appears there is little interest in further expansion and there will be opposition if it means a revenue drop for membership.

“I feel like when we added the two that we added, it made sense. It had a lot of momentum behind it,” Barta said Thursday. “I’ve not yet heard anything that would get me at Iowa — I’m just speaking for Iowa — excited to say, ‘Let’s continue to expand more.’ So, I don’t feel like it’s a hot button. But that’s one person’s opinion. I won’t speak for the conference.

“Whatever upside Iowa will receive from the new TV contract, I’m certainly not going to be interested in supporting additional expansion, if that means Iowa would get less. That’s just one criteria, but that’s an important one.”
