TCU is at an unexpected crossroads in 2023, but should we be surprised?​

Regression is built in to the sport of college football. Student athletes are working with a running clock, and even the greatest among them can't escape the inevitability of finite eligibility. Many have tried (see J.T. Daniels), but eventually college football will escort you out of the club.

Not to mention, there's always money to be made elsewhere. Whether it be a better gig for coaches or athletes trying their hand at the professional level, "the next thing" is always calling. Even the biggest of NIL bags can't keep everyone home.

Unless you're the bluest of the blue bloods, success is cyclical. Even then, time will get you eventually.
