GoFrogs: Volleyball Announces 2024 Signing Class

FORT WORTH – TCU volleyball head coach Jason Williams announced the complete 2024 signing class for the upcoming season.

The Horned Frogs unveiled the addition of high school stars Evan Hendrix, Bryn Shankle, Alice Volpe and Mikala Young to the 2024-25 roster on Monday.

"We are extremely excited about this 2024 signing class," Williams said. "Not only are they a highly ranked class, they are incredible people that we feel blessed to be a part of our program. Each and every one of them is the type of talent and character that we are looking for to enhance our culture. This could be a program-changing class and we are looking forward to great things out of them when they get here."

TCU's recruiting class was ranked ninth nationally by Prep Volleyball and was also named the 14th-best recruiting class by Prep Dig.

The StadiumTalk No. 1 Arizona Volleyball Player played four years of varsity volleyball at Notre Dame Prep. Hendrix garnered West Region Player of the Year and was named the 5A Conference Player of the Year after totaling 509 kills as a senior. In her career, Hendrix amassed 1,898 kills over 373 sets played at a whopping .319 clip. She also tallied 1,036 digs and 127 blocks.

Hendrix posted 626 kills during her sophomore season as she aided Notre Dame Prep to a 2021 4A Conference State Championship. She was named the 2021 4A Conference Offensive Player of the Year after her team's championship run.

Following her junior season as a 5A Conference First Team selection, Hendrix was also named MaxPreps No. 1 Volleyball Player in Arizona. She was named a Second Team MaxPreps Volleyball All-American and garnered MaxPreps Preseason All-American First Team honors at the start of her senior season.

She played club volleyball with AZ Revolution.

Hendrix earned Dean's List honors in back-to-back years and was also named to the 2022-23 Principal's List.

Bryn Shankle • MB • 6-4 • Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Shankle has been instrumental for Mira Costa High School since her sophomore year. She played in 113 sets and totaled 102 blocks (0.90 per set) in her senior season. Shankle also amassed 133 total kills and averaged 1.20 kills per set at a .330 clip.

She earned 2023 All-Bay League honors and was named to the 2023 All-Area team. Shankle aided Mira Costa to two California InterScholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section runner-up appearances in her high school career.

She shined in the club scene with Mizuno Long Beach.

A huge volleyball family, Shankle is the daughter of Erika and Greg Shankle. Greg played volleyball at Pepperdine and was a member of the 1992 NCAA National Championship squad. He also played on the AVP beach volleyball tour following his college graduation.

Alice Volpe • DS/L • 5-6 • Cypress, Texas
The all-time dig leader at Bridgeland High School finished her career with 2,296 digs. Volpe averaged 5.6 digs per set over 135 sets played her senior year to earn AVCA First Team All-American honors.

She was pivotal in Bridgeland's regional semifinal appearance her senior year. Averaging 17.6 digs per match, Volpe was named to the 6A All-State First Team and was also honored as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year All Greater Houston Area.

Volpe capped off her high school career as the back-to-back 16-6A Defensive Player of the Year. She was also selected to the First Team All-VYPE Public School Team her junior and senior seasons. As a sophomore, she broke the Bridgeland single-season dig record with 820 and earned her first of three consecutive All-District 16-6A First Team honors.

Ranked as the No. 83 player on Prep Dig, Volpe spent her prep career with the Houston Juniors.

She also was an elite student-athlete as she was a two-time Academic All-District. Volpe was also a member of the National Honors Society.

Volpe is the daughter of Genny Volpe, who just wrapped up her 20th season as the head volleyball coach at Rice. Genny Volpe has led the Owls to eight NCAA Championships and is the winningest coach in program history (304-210).
Mikala Young • OH • 6-0 • Dallas, Texas
Young was a four-time Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) First Team All-District selection at Prestonwood Christian High School. Ranked as the No. 48 player in the country by Prep Dig, Young guided her team to back-to-back TAPPS State Championships in 2022 and 2023.

As a junior, she hit .311 with 338 kills to earn 2022 TAPPS 6A First-Team All State and 2022 AVCA Phenom Watch List honors. She followed that up with a stellar senior season as Prestonwood Christian were crowned TAPPS State Champions once again. She finished her high school campaign earning Second Team All-State honors and was named to the 2023 AVCA Phenom Watch List.

Young donned the club jersey with Texas Advantage Volleyball.

An avid student as well, Young was a three-time Honor Roll selection and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also earned the Prestonwood Christian 2022 Photoshop Student of the Year award and was named the 2023 Digital Photography Student of the Year as well.
