How’d TCU go 5-7 with five NFL Draft picks? TCU’s Patterson is as disappointed as anyone.

TCU coach Gary Patterson took great pride in seeing five players selected in the NFL Draft last week, including multiple first-round picks for the first time since 1939.

But Patterson also acknowledged the disappointment in finishing with a losing record with all that talent. The Horned Frogs went just 5-7 in 2019, missing bowl eligibility for just the third time in Patterson’s 19 seasons.

“From my standpoint, we were No. 1 in defense (in the Big 12), but we underachieved,” Patterson said during a conference call with reporters Tuesday.

Couldn't go through a full interview without saying "grow up" could you, GP?

"Grow up" is what you do when most of your talent is 3* or less. Takes time to develop a lowly rated prospect into an NFL level player. Maybe, one day we will sign more players like Reagor or Blacklock.

Grow up is what you do when you have a bunch of freshman who are 18 years old, which is what Gary gets coming in every year. So I think he's spot on using such a phrase.

When you go 5-7, you grow up or grow something.
