From the Desk of #ADJD

Dear Horned Frogs Fans:

CONGRATS ANGELA!
We begin this month's edition with a shout out to a special Horned Frog. We were beyond proud to see Angela Stanford earn her first LPGA major title by capturing the Evian Championship in France. It was then very special to recognize her at our home football game versus Iowa State as well as having her involved in one of our more special honors, being included in that night's Riff Ram video.

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GAME
After a successful White Out with our win over Iowa State, we're now preparing for a Black Out next Thursday, Oct. 11, versus Texas Tech at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN. With the midweek game, please note we will have a few changes in our normal game-day policies. As previously announced with Provost Nowell Donovan, classes will not be canceled and all faculty, staff and students will be required to park off-site in designated lots with shuttle access or find alternate methods of transportation to campus. As we get closer to the game, more detailed parking and shuttle information will be provided.

Along those lines, please note that we will have shortened tailgating hours. Parking lots will open at 3:30 p.m. and remain open for 90 minutes after the conclusion of the game.

A FOUR-PEAT
We are well on our way to having a Big 12 Freshman of the Year. Congrats to volleyball's élan McCall on being selected Big 12 Rookie of the Week for a fourth time this season. She recorded her eighth double-double in our 3-1 Saturday win at Kansas State, helping us improve to 2-1 in Big 12 play.

STUDENT-ATHLETE RECOGNITION
Each week, we recognize our departmental Student-Athletes of the Week. Please see below for our recipients last month:

Sept. 4 – Triston Fisher (men's golf) and Evelyn Mandel (women's cross country)
Sept. 11 – Corey Bethley (football) and Anna Walsh (volleyball)
Sept. 18 – Darius Anderson (football) and Kayla Hill (soccer)
Sept. 25 – Alex Rybakov (men's tennis) and Rachel Garner (rifle)

We also honor Scholar-Athletes of the Month. Our September recipients were football's Jonathan Song and volleyball's élan McCall.

EXPOSURE
We are very appreciative of ESPN selecting TCU to once again host its College GameDay Show before our Ohio State contest. Between GameDay and being the Saturday night featured game on ABC, it was a great day and weekend for us with national exposure. At the time, we were the highest-rated college football game on any network this season as well as over the past year. On social media, between our football and main TCU Athletics accounts, we had 5.74 million impressions, including 2.2 million on game day. Our video pieces had 607,700 views and we gained 3,460 new followers.

Among Power 5 programs, our Facebook account that day ranked No. 1 nationally in interaction rate and third in growth. Our Twitter account was third and sixth, respectively, in both categories. Our website had 43,000 more weekend page views, while its Saturday page views nearly doubled the average of the opening two weekends. We also had nearly 31,000 new users on our website. All in all, it was tremendous exposure for TCU!

CAPITOL HILL
We have another Top 25 ranking! Congrats to former baseball student-athlete Andrew Mitchell on being recognized by LEAD1 as one of its Top 25 Congressional Staff Student-Athletes. Andrew was a first-team all-conference pitcher and Freshman All-American for us. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox and currently works as a legislative assistant with Texas Senator John Cornyn.

IT'S A NEAR SELLOUT
We have less than 70 seats available for a sellout of men's basketball season tickets this year. Coming off our first NCAA Tournament appearance in 20 years, a consensus preseason top 25 ranking by media outlets and an exciting team to watch with a top recruiting class, there is definite excitement in our program under head coach Jamie Dixon. We're also proud of our momentum on the women's side. Raegan Pebley returns all five starters from last year's team which advanced to the WNIT Semifinals.

With our seasons nearing, we're also pleased to report that our band will be at all but one men's game this season. They have a scheduling conflict for our Nov. 7 season opener, but we'll have a local high school band take their place that night. For women's games, we'll have the band at all games except for two contests over the holiday break.

HALL OF FAME
Last week, we welcomed home and honored our newest inductees into the TCU Lettermen's Association Hall of Fame. Congratulations to our 2018 class that includes Brashant Carter '96 (track and field/football), Simpson Degrate '72 (men's basketball), Virgil Hodge '08 (women's track and field), Mike Keathley '01 (football), Jason Phillips '08 (football) and Adrianne Ross '08 (women's basketball)!

FIST BUMP
Our monthly fist bump recipient is associate director of sports medicine Matt Herrill. As some of you might have heard, we had an unfortunate situation last month at our TCU Alumni Basketball Game. A former student-athlete needed immediate medical care during the game. Matt was on site. He worked with retired TCU head athletics trainer Chris Hall, who was in attendance, and provided CPR to save a life. Thank you, Matt!

DID YOU KNOW?
With Charles Coody capturing the 1971 Masters and Angela Stanford the 2018 Evian Championship, we are one of only 14 schools nationally to have a men's and women's golfer both win majors on the PGA and LPGA tours. I would not be surprised to see Angela hoisting more hardware soon.
