I've felt this program has missed the energy it once had every since Micah died. I'm not saying that's the reason we've been bad recently and underperformed to our expectations this year, but I think the confluence of that and all of CJS' personal life issues going on in the background seems to have affected his work. Add in the details about his relationship with ADJD and it looks like a perfect storm of events that end even the best possible run. Micah represented hope and inspired the programs and fans to give max effort and never take the little things for granted. After Micah passed and all these other things came to light Schloss just seemed to have a different energy and didn't have the little guy to remind him how to embrace the suck and persevere.

I don't think we're ever again going to have the Schloss who took us to 4 straight CWS appearances even if we offer him a lifetime contract like Tadlock got. The only chance for Schloss to regain his mojo is to try to get it back somewhere else. And the only way we're going to get our mojo back is to try to get it back with someone else at the helm.

I'm like most others here who are grateful for what Schloss brought to the program and how he elevated it to one of the most fun things I look forward to every year in college sports. That said, if he decides to coach somewhere else I think it would be a mutually beneficial separation.

I've never met JS and don't know him at all, but he looks miserable out there coaching, like he's just totally put off by everyone around him. That's the vibe he gives off, at least to me.

we will see if he leaves - but I really doubt it will be beneficial for TCU.

Saarloos or not - programs that have changed "legendary" head coaches and done the same or better with the next guy are around 1 in 20 at best.

I honestly think Schloss has worked out a lot of stuff in the last 3 years and feel like he knows what he wants which is why he has done some of the things in his life to make things better all around - and my understanding is it was not to leave town.

But in the end, that might be the result.

he looked like that in Omaha - sitting calmly, being overly cerebral and eating an apple is the JS approach to coaching.

I like it better that the Josh Holliday approach of walking around grumbling and looking like you need to take a big dump all the time.

I don’t get the ADJD hate.
The guy shouldn't have been hired from the start. He was inexperienced and underqualified. I personally found it insulting that our university that acts like it wants to compete at an elite level was so lazy in our hiring process after CDC left.

If ADJD had come in with a chip on his shoulder ready to grind and outwork everyone, proving that it was worth taking a chance on him, maybe it'd be a different story. But from multiple accounts, JD loves him some JD and spends more time enjoying the perks of his position than he does trying to improve and lead our athletic department.

Not to mention, I've heard countless stories of the guy being a playboy that gets drunk regularly with his staff, especially on road trips.

Maybe he does not take the proper probiotic and THAT is the case all the time?:)

concerning a new stadium, would it have to be a completely new facility or could it possibly be something similar to amon carter?

any ideas on the cost of such a project be it new build or renovation?

with Amon Carter they retained street level and below and built up from there. Hard to compare that with baseball which is a smaller project. I have nothing on cost estimates. It wouldn’t matter to me if they just added reserved seats to match season ticket demand along with a nice facade. I have reserved seats so I’m good but I think having a more impressive stadium is important to coaches. And considering many of our players are paying partial TCU tuition, it should also help recruiting.

I think it's worse now tbh. Admittedly I didn't follow the team as closely 10 years ago, but I don't remember thinking he looks disgusted all the time in the dugout then like he seems to now.

Generally though, for whatever reason, being a super-serious, emotionless wet blanket seems to part and parcel with being a baseball coach/manager, so JS for sure isn't alone.

I will miss Schloss, but I think it is time. Too many questionable coaching decisions this year. His TCU heart is no longer in it. If he has issues with the AD, then TCU has to make a choice. I doubt they will dump the AD.

1) Most of it boiled over with the Covid response. A lot of them still haven’t unwound their panties about all that. Most of that should fall on the chancellor and the board, but they lump it onto ADJD.

2) Outside of fundraising, he hasn’t managed/led the three major male sports coaches in a way that makes us feel like they are being held to a high standard. Despite our success in baseball this year, Schloss has been average the last few years, same with football, and basketball, well, that is just downright trash.

3) He has merely kept what CDC had left, snd it has all gotten progressively worse since CDC’s departure. Outside of women’s soccer, track, and the country club sports we usually do well in, we are not where we should be.

1 I agree with and can appreciate. That said I think ADJDs hands were tied. Few here will doubt that tcu powers above ADJD fear negative press.

Regarding the rest I just don’t credit the AD as much as others for our successes and failures. Dixon might be the only coach worth firing of the big 3 and for all we know he may already have been told that 21-22 is a major upgrade or he’s out.

IMHO it’s the AD’s job to hire/fire and raise money. Then the rest just shakes out.

I dont know if this literally is true but college baseball seems bigger than ever and more schools are investing heavily in it than it seems ever before.

Having said that, I alwasy thought we went cheap on Lupton. I recogniaze that at the time we werent flush with cash but now we have a real pickle. We need to start over with a massive re-build in my view and I wonder if the donors are there for it given the football stadium work and DMC.

Curious why you think major upgrade? I know the place has issues but what needs to happen?

Yes, the stadium was built during the CUSA days. At the time it was fine. However, with the new baseball stadium arms race, it is time for us to rebuild the seating areas. We need more seats, we need more restrooms, and we need more concession stands. As popular as baseball has become, we could also use more suites and clubseats to help pay for this. As for Donati and Schlossnagle, that need to get together and air their differences and work on working together. I know Schlossnagle has been going through some personal issues, and has also been frustrated with the Covid restrictions like the rest of us. That is pretty much over now. Let's get back to work and build this team towards another CWS.

yea, with both Amon Carter and Schollmeier, there were deep pockets stepping up and basically fully funding projects in advance. I would like to believe if that’s what our admin is waiting for and it’s not happening, this is where ADJD could display his selling skills if he has any.
