GoFrogs: TCU Cruises Past Texas, 3-0
FORT WORTH – Goals from Grace Collins, Haley Mallion and Yazmeen Ryan along with five saves from Emily Alvarado helped TCU pick up a 3-0 win over Texas at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium on Friday night.
The Rundown
TCU and Texas played a fairly even first half with both teams registering seven shots, but it was the Horned Frogs that found the back of the net. In the 28th minute, a scramble inside the 18 saw the ball land at feet of Gracie Brian. From her backside, she was able to get the ball to Yazmeen Ryan, who battled her defender to get off a shot that found its way to the back of the goal.
The Frogs kept their foot on the gas in the second half and were rewarded with a couple of goals.
Texas nearly got the equalizer in the 58th minute as Haley Berg's shot from the left of the goal skimmed off the crossbar and out of danger.
After narrowly missing a goal earlier in the half, Haley Mallion finally hit paydirt in the 75th minute. Abby Ogard fed a streaking Brandi Peterson down the sideline. She carried the ball into 18 and found Mallion, whose shot to the far post eluded the Longhorn keeper for a 2-0 lead.
A great individual effort by Grace Collins in the 89th minute turned into a 3-0 lead as she beat her defender and was able to fire off a shot from about 15 yards out.
Emily Alvarado had to be sharp as she made five saves, four of which came in the second half, to preserve the shutout. Texas finished with 20 shots, most coming late in the game and from distance as it tried to find a goal.

"I looked at last week and I thought we were better and the score line didn't look like we wanted it to. Then we come out today and we had great effort. We were able to create some goal scoring opportunities and put some away. I'm happy for the team, they deserved the win."
