Exactly, precisely how I feel. Art Briles was only 34-28 at houston. Did you know he was 16-20 after three full seasons with the cougars? Ended up being a home run hire for Baylor (rape excluded). Nick Saban was similar. 34-24 at MSU before heading to Baton Rouge. Just 25-22 after his four full seasons there. Of course we know the rest there. Mack Brown was 69-46-1 at UNC before making the jump to UT. He started 2-20(!) at UNC. Point being - who you are in the past isn’t a guarantee of who you’ll be in the future. The landscape is littered with coaches who were superstars with an impressive win pct who then couldn’t cut it at the new place. The game is weird like that. In all 3 cases above you have coaches who were “meh” candidates who grew into legends once they had the full resources of a stronger program and more passionate fan base on their side. Who says Dykes can’t possibly have great success here? The day he steps into the job here, he will have more fans in attendance than he has ever had. More bought in “big money donors” and full administrative support than he has ever had. Better facilities than he has ever had. More money than he has ever had. A deeper pool of cash than he has ever had to hire better team of assistants than he has ever had. And from all signs, he will have better recruiters under him than he has ever had. Add in that he has a track record of improving programs overall. Add in that he is well known across the metroplex and the state as a whole. Add in that he has shown that he knows how to use the portal to find studs. Add in that he is not afraid of NIL. Add in that he knows that giving fans and media more access is a GOOD thing. Add in that he seems to be a great fit culturally. I, for one, think Dykes has a LOT of potential to succeed here. It’s time the haters either cool their jets until actual results come in or maybe they should find a new program to cheer for.
