TV Ratings for Baylor game in

We pulled a 2.3 national rating (averaged over the whole game). That's 1.1 better than last year's Friday opener (WVa vs Marshall) and equal to the Boise/UGa game on Saturday. Not bad for two small private schools. That shows how Beebe is such a dolt. If you put a good product on the field, you will get ratings even for small schools. Bad product = bad ratings even for large state schools.

While I agree that our drawing power may be underrated, there is a caveat here. Boise/UGA was competing with LSU/Oregon on ABC, last year's Friday opener that got the 1.2 was Arizona/Toledo (WVU/Marshall was the following week), and our only competition was Michigan State/Youngstown on BTN. Having said that, an excellent rating.

What does "metered" mean? Do you think it dropped because people turned away thinking the game was done in the 3rd?

The larger metered markets are the ones where Neilsen uses automated means to track ratings (ie, boxes attached to the TV). The smaller markets uses submitted diaries. The national ratings once the diaries are counted may differ. And the 2.3 is an average over the course of the entire game. It probably fluctuated over the course of the 2nd half.

Hey CDC, take not of that rating since the TV people have been telling TCU doen't draw in the TV sets. IT is not an end all, but worth noting and saving for future discussions regarding TV.

You could also look to last year's ratings for the OSU and SMU games, both of which were the highest for the Texas market of any competing programming.

I doubt it was that Baylor had more people watching but rather a matchup people wanted to see. Using the ratings from a past TCU vs. CSU game on lesser watched network, is not the best barometer on gauging TCU's TV drwaing power. But appearantly that is what they have been doing.

Just to argue the counterpoint; Friday is also a worse TV day than Saturday. There's a reason nobody puts their best TV shows on a Friday night; because everybody is out of the house. Plus the Friday of Memorial day means everyone was driving somewhere for the weekend. ;)

Nobody outside Waco turns in to watch the Bears. Frogs are pulling in the viewers

Yeah, here is a comparison against other Texas teams on ESPN:

Friday's game against Baylor averaged 235,000 viewers in DFW and outdrew A&M versus SMU.

TCU v. Oregon State averaged 291,811 viewers in DFW last year and outdrew TTU v. SMU by 150,000 households.

http://www.unclebark...e5030-1712.html

TCU v. SMU televised on cable last year averaged 221,622 viewers overall, barely losing out to Texas v. UCLA which was televised on ABC.

I also found these numbers interesting from our last three bowls:

http://www.thecypres...S_SUCCESS/38257
http://www.sportsmed...ia-bowl-up-115/

So to anyone who says we don't bring the DFW market, what is YOUR objective evidence?

Media (local) is finally starting to pick up on what we've known for quite some time. Stat mentioned on Galloway - last 5 national TV games with TCU drew a bigger audience in DFW than the last 5 national TV games for A&M.

Yeah, and what ratings do you think Louisville vs. Cincy would get? Or even Mizzou vs. KU? We could be the premier draw for the Big 12. Can you imagine the ratings for TCU vs. Texas or TCU vs. OU next year if those games are on ABC?

On cable they know when people turn a station on and if they keep the station on for 15 minutes I believe they consider that watching and during the Baylor game 277,028 but peaked at 10:30 to 10:45 with 353,211.

More info is on another post just last week.

For the Baylor game, we basically averaged 4 times our living alumni. I would say we are capturing DFW. F' the haters. There is a pretty good chacne that, if the Big 12 doesnt add us voluntarily, TV will add us for them. IMO.
