Reno Gazette-Journal: WAC notifies members of suit against Nevada, Fresno State and MWC

The Western Athletic Conference has notified its member institutions that it has filed a lawsuit demanding that the University of Nevada and Fresno State University remain in the conference until 2012.
University of Nevada lawyers have received a copy of a lawsuit from the conference. The lawsuit documents aren't court-stamped, which makes knowing whether the documents were filed in court difficult. The documents indicate the lawsuit was filed in Jefferson County, Colo. The RGJ was unable to verify that the suit was filed before business hours ended Monday.The Mountain West Conference also was named in the lawsuit.
Nevada and Fresno State informed the WAC on Aug. 18 of their desire to join the MWC for the 2011-12 academic year. The WAC's stance is the two schools did not inform the WAC of their plans to leave until after the July 1 deadline listed in the conference's bylaws. Because of that, they are bound to stay in the WAC until July 1, 2012. ...
