It was the winter after the 2000 season and Justin Fuente was in something of a football limbo.
He had completed a season as quarterback of Oklahoma City's Arena Football League team. He had a degree in business from Murray State; his father's a stockbroker.
Success, he probably felt, could come from a variety of career paths.
But Denver Johnson, who coached Fuente at Murray State and had since moved on to Illinois State, called him. He begged him to visit Normal, Ill.
