GoFrogs: Frogs Win a Thriller

LUBBOCK
: The TCU Horned Frogs won a thriller in the desert on Friday afternoon 4-3 at the McLeod Tennis Center.

TCU (10-7) had to come from behind after the doubles point and win four singles matches. The Frogs got the job done against Texas Tech (13-8).

The Horned Frogs failed to produce a point in doubles, falling behind early in the match. Tech snared the lead with doubles wins on courts No. 3 and No. 1. Destinee Martins and Tiphanie Lemaitre fell to Kate Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp by way of a 6-4 finish. Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai couldn't produce a win on the No. 1 court losing 6-3.

With the doubles point in the rearview mirror, the four Frogs who lost in doubles turned the match around with wins in singles.

The comeback began on court No. 5, Destinee Martins got off to a sluggish start. The junior dropped her first set in a 6-0 sweep. Following a short break Martins found her rhythm winning the next two sets (6-1, 6-2) to tie the match at one apiece and turned the momentum in favor of the Frogs.

Later, on court No. 1 Tiphanie Lemaitre spoiled Olivia Peet's senior day of Texas Tech. The transfer from France won a tight first-set tiebreaker 7-6 and took control of the remainder of the match. In her second set, Lemaitre dashed to a 6-2 victory taking the lead for the Frogs.

The freshman Yu-Chin Tsai garnered another singles win on her resume with a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory playing up on the No. 3 court.

Mercedes Aristegui and Jade Otway went deep into three sets in both of their matches, but both failed to prevail. Tied at three-all, the Frogs needed one last push to emerge victorious.

Narmont got off to a slow start in the first set on court No. 6. The sophomore fell 6-4 in the first set, but her confidence never wavered. After an adjustment headed into set two, the Estonian found herself in a tiebreaker during the second set. Narmont stretched the lead in the tiebreaker eventually grabbing the win. With the deciding third set on the horizon, Narmont wore down freshman Andreea Lila. On serve, Narmont closed the match and her teammates embraced her in victory.
