GoFrogs: TCU Falls Short to Oklahoma

FORT WORTH – The TCU women's tennis fell short to the Oklahoma Sooners 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

LEE'S THOUGHTS
"Proud of the character and class our ladies showed today," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "Obviously we would've loved to close that one out, but there were a lot of highlights to build on going into conference tournament. Jade and Isa just very dominant at one doubles today against a very solid team. Destinee really elevated her play in doubles and singles and really maximized her senior day- coming up clutch in the doubles tiebreaker to get the doubles point for us and then dominating their one player who is undefeated this spring. So happy for her to have that memory as her last experience on the purple courts."

"We now have to heal up, and recover quickly because we have our first match Wednesday and need to make a run. We know we are capable with our tennis, but we have to get mentally and physically restored for our run to a championship."

THE RUNDOWN
The match began with doubles play, where the Horned Frogs earned their ninth doubles win on the purple courts. Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual started off the day with their eleventh win as a pair, with a 6-1 win against Roisin Gilheany and Dana Guzman on court one. Helena Narmont and Destinee Martins clinched the doubles point for the Frogs with a 7-6 (8-6) win in the tiebreaker on court three. It was their fifth win as a pair and their first win in a tiebreaker. Pascual and Otway finish off the season leading the team in doubles wins both overall and in-conference, going 11-5 overall and 6-4 in conference.

Martins got the Frogs only singles win with a 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 26 Julia Garcia-Ruiz, the highest ranked win in her career. The senior finishes off her season 11-4, going 7-2 in conference play. She is tied for the most amount of singles wins this season for the team with Otway (11-7) and Pascual (11-5). Martins also led the team in conference wins, going 7-2 in Big 12 play. Two of the six singles matches went to three sets, with Caballero losing 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 and Pascual's match being left unfinished.

The Frogs finish off the regular season 12-8 overall, with a 7-6 conference record, tied for the most amount of wins the Frogs have ever recorded in the Big 12. TCU ends the regular season in fifth in the Big 12, their highest finish since 2016.
