GoFrogs: TCU Blanks Texas, 5-0, In Opener
AUSTIN, Texas – The pitching trio of Payton Tolle, Hunter Hodges and Ben Abeldt combined to hold Texas to five hits in guiding TCU to a 5-0 series-opening victory Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Luke Boyers homered and drove in two runs.

The Rundown
Payton Tolle (4-3) was solid in tossing seven shutout innings. He surrendered just four hits, walked two and struck out seven. He faced the minimum through four, helped along by a double play in the fourth.

TCU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first. Chase Brunson led off the game with a double and scored on a two-out double off the bat of Kurtis Byrne.

The Frogs picked up an insurance run in the sixth. A diving attempt in right field on a sinking line drive was unsuccessful and Byrne raced around the bases to third. Luke Boyers bounced a single through a drawn-in infield to make it a 2-0 ballgame.

Boyers came through again in the eighth with a two-out home run to push the TCU advantage to 3-0.

Two walks and an infield single had the bases-loaded with nobody out in the ninth. Karson Bowen hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Ryder Robinson. The throw back to the infield got away from the Texas infield and Peyton Chatagnier was able to score from second to make it a 5-0 game.

Tolle gave way to Hunter Hodges in the eighth with a runner on second. Hodges induced a double-play ball and struck out the final batter to complete his inning of work. Ben Abeldt fanned two around a two-out single to lock up the shutout.
