The Maggie Dixon Classic has been played annually since 2006 in honor of the late Maggie Dixon, sister of TCU men's head coach Jamie Dixon. Maggie died on April 6, 2006 of an arrhythmia, just weeks after leading Army West Point to its first NCAA Tournament. "I'm thrilled that Texas A&M will host this year's Maggie Dixon Classic," Dixon said. "It's also extra special for me that TCU is participating in the event. Both Coach Blair and Coach Pebley have been big supporters of the Maggie Dixon Classic, the premier event in women's college basketball." "It is an honor to play in this event for the third time, considering how much Maggie Dixon meant to all of the young coaches in the game. The Classic began in 2006 when the inaugural event was played at Christl Arena on Army West Point's campus. Jamie's Pittsburgh men's team played in that first Classic, as did Maggie's Army women's team. The event has since been played exclusively between women's teams. After the inaugural event at Christl Arena, the Maggie Dixon Classic was played at Madison Square Garden for nine straight seasons, through 2015. Last season, it was played at St. John's Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm hosted DePaul, where Maggie was an assistant coach before becoming Army West Point's head coach. The Maggie Dixon Classic has produced the eventual national champion four times, including Texas A&M, which beat Rutgers on Dec. 19, 2010 before winning the 2011 NCAA National Championship. The Aggies also played in the Maggie Dixon Classic in 2013, losing to St. John's. TCU has never played in the event. TCU and Texas A&M will tip off at 11 a.m. on Dec. 6 with the game being broadcast on SEC Network.
