Maponga On Ted Hendricks Award Watch List

Former Horned Frog Jerry Hughes was the 2009 recipient

CHICAGO -- TCU's Stansly Maponga is included on the watch list for the 2011 Ted Hendricks Award, presented to the nation's top defensive end. Two-time Horned Frog All-American Jerry Hughes was the 2009 recipient.

The award is named after Ted Hendricks, a College Football and Pro Football Hall of Fame member. Playing defensive end at Miami (Fla.), Hendricks became college football's first three-time first-team All-American. His professional career spanned 15 years and 215 consecutive games. It included four Super Bowl victories and eight Pro Bowls.

Maponga was an All-Mountain West Conference selection and Freshman All-American in 2010 as he replaced Hughes at left end. He placed second on the defensive front with 32 tackles. He totaled three stops for loss, including 2 1/2 sacks.

A native of Carrollton, Texas, Maponga had a season-best five tackles against SMU and Air Force. He recorded three stops in TCU's 21-19 Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin.

Sounds like ole Maponga has been working hard to get back from his surgery in the Spring. He is going to be a beast. Turning into my favorite player on the team.
