Opening Tip
  • TCU and Houston are tied for 11th in the Big 12 standings. The winner of Saturday's game will force a tie for ninth and move off the cut line for a first round matchup in the Big 12 Championship.
  • The teams' January meeting was overshadowed by the season-ending injury to TCU point guard Jaden Owens (8.4 ppg, 7.2 apg) in the first quarter.
  • The Cougars outscored TCU 21-9 in the immediate aftermath of Owens' exit. The teams were even in the first and fourth frames while the Horned Frogs outscored Houston 15-14 in the third period.
  • TCU shot 10-20 from downtown in Space City
  • TCU will notch three straight Big 12 victories for the first time since Feb. 16-23, 2020, with a win over the Cougars. The 2019-20 campaign also marked the last time TCU won five Big 12 games.
Frog Focus
  • TCU is averaging 9.9 threes per game, the third-best single-season mark in Big 12 history.
  • TCU has knocked down a season-high 14 threes in back-to-back ballgames. The Horned Frogs have drained 14 looks from deep four times this season.
  • TCU is one of only two teams in the country ranking in the top-10 in 3-pointers per game (5th, 9.9), 3-pointers (6th, 257) and 3-point percentage differential (6th, .104).
  • TCU is 43 threes shy of becoming the seventh squad in Big 12 history to reach 300 in a season.
  • The Horned Frogs have kept opponents below their season scoring average in 20 of 26 games, including all five tilts vs. ranked opposition and 16 of their 17 home games.
  • TCU limited BYU to 6-21 shooting behind the arc, signifying the 18th time the Horned Frogs have surrendered six-or-fewer 3-pointers this season.
  • The Horned Frogs have kept opponents under 40 percent from the field in 16 outings, including their most recent wins over BYU and Cincinnati. BYU's 58 points were its fewest at home in 2023-24.
  • Madison Conner leads the Big 12 and ranks 18th nationally in scoring (20.9 ppg).
  • Conner is averaging 4.1 threes per game, a mark that ranks second in the country and in Big 12 single-season history.
  • Conner knocked down her 81st three-pointer at BYU, tying Jill Sutton (1997-98) for second on TCU's single-season records list for 3-pointers. She needs seven to surpass Zahna Medley's 2015-16 tally of 87 as TCU's single-season 3-point record-holder.
  • Conner is one of only seven players in the country and one of just five guards 5-11-or-shorter averaging at least 20 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists per game,
  • Aaliyah Roberson finished 23 points and 13 rebounds - both of which were career-highs - and recorded her fourth double-double in Wednesday's win at BYU. She finished 4-8 from downtown.
  • Roberson tops the Big 12 and is ninth in the country in effective field goal percentage (.638).
  • Roberson leads the Big 12 and is ninth nationally in 3-point percentage (.406) among players 6-2-or-taller.
  • Roberson is averaging 11.3 points and seven rebounds per night across her last eight starts.
  • Agnes Emma-Nnopu Emma-Nnopu has scored at least 17 points in four of her last six outings. She collected 17 points and nine boards on Wednesday in Provo.
  • Emma-Nnopu's season rebounding average (7.2) ranks second among all Big 12 guards.
  • Emma-Nnopu leads all Big 12 guards and is 13th in the country in offensive rebounds (63).
  • Sydney Harris leads the Big 12 in 3-point percentage (.459). She has shot 50 percent-or-better with multiple makes behind the arc in five of her last 11 games.
  • Conner, Harris and Roberson combine to make TCU the sole Big 12 team with three players connecting above 40 percent from deep with at least 25 makes from distance.
  • Harris ranks second in the country only to Caitlin Clark in 3-pointers per 40 minutes, averaging 5.4.
A Win over the Cougars Would…
  • Give TCU its sixth-most home victories in a season (14).
  • Signify the second time in 47 seasons TCU has improved its year-over-year win total by 10 games; the 1978-79 Horned Frogs squad increased its win tally from five to 19 in the program's second season of existence.
  • Be TCU's 186th as a Big 12 member.
  • Nudge Mark Campbell within a victory of becoming the winningest first-year head coach in program history.
  • Increase Campbell's combined career year-over-year win improvement to 32 across three seasons as a head coach.
  • Send the Horned Frogs to three straight Big 12 victories for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.
  • Make TCU 5-1 against conference newcomers this season.

So, Frogs are 18-9, 5-11 in conference (so weird to see more conference losses than total, but that's how the forfeits work).

Will be interesting to see how the post-season plays out. Assuming they don't make the NCAAs, the Frogs will be a high seed in the WNIT, which will have 48 teams this year. Making a deep run there is quite possible, and would be something Coach Campbell could build on.

But I'm not sure that TCU is totally out of the discussion for an NCAA bid. Frogs are 46th in NET. Following are the 8 "first out" teams per ESPN's Charlie Creme -- with their NET ranking.

25 - Washington State
43- Kansas
57 - St. Joseph's
63 - Arkansas
47 - Villanova
61 - Columbia
65 - George Mason
60 - Cal

The "last 4 in" are 31, 32, 50 & 59 in NET.

The game at WVU (20 in NET) to close the regular season looms large. If they beat Tech, WVU, and likely Okie Light in the 8/9 game in the Big 12 tourney, they'll be 21-9 and in the top 40 in NET, with 6 straight wins. The 8-11 conference record looks terrible, but everybody knows the context of the losses, and with Conner and Prince back in the lineup, it's a very competitive team.

What do you think the committee would say about the Frogs' resume?
- "Even with the mid-season losses, they're 21-10 with good metrics and 6-1 down the stretch."
- "No way a team that went 8-11 in conference makes our bracket."
- "I like 'em, but I'm not willing to saddle a 5-seed with that matchup."
- "After the open tryouts mid-season, we'll get all kinds of media love for selecting them."

Good analysis. I say we win the B12 tournament and make it all moot.

It's all about "the body of work" / resume of one's season to determine the "tournament make-up," so-to-type. If the Lady Frogs continue to be competitive (which they largely were even w/o Conner, Owens, and Prince), including winning vs Texas Tech and then on-the-road against a tough WVU team (Thankfully, Conner and Prince are back!), will tell a lot going into the Big 12 Tournament. Additionally, if the Lady Frogs have a "good showing" in conference tournament play, I concur (AND their season's story(ies) is/are the icing ;)): "I'm not sure that TCU is totally out of the discussion for an NCAA bid." And, yes, any post - Big 12 Tournament play will really benefit the program [going forward], as I'm already looking toward the "Cavinder-Conner Combo" in the Fall!
