DMN: Why adding two schools might be the most likely, and best, outcome of Big 12 expansion

Why do the divisions have to be based on geographical location?
They don't. Geography is still important in terms of a team traveling and a fan base traveling to away games. Geography is not the end all but it plays a part.

Should we decide to expand, we will be
A. Temporarily wealthier
B. on a slow march towards a new conference home.

If this sounds like the bees knees to you than great. However, the guy you let in the door could be the guy who eats your dinner at the new conferences house warming party in a few years. The next time conference alignment comes up its likely to be a blood bath much worse than the death of the SWC. Maybe I'm wrong but the blue bloods of College football have a history of practicing exclusivity not inclusiveness. We have no reason to think that will change in 10 years.

College football is like technology. The blue bloods will protect their content for as long as they can. Eventually that content is hacked by non traditional. The blue bloods will attempt to change the system to get their exclusivity back..cycle cycle cycle.

The real question for TCU and its fans is ... Are we a blue blood or a hacker..If for any reason you think we might be a hacker...then expansion is a terrible idea. And if it's unavoidable then it absolutely can't be with Someone in state.

You're probably right.  What the real bluebloods, the Ohio States, Michigans, Alabamas, Texas' and Oklahomas want is large state schools that bring a lot of alums and some decent fan interest but have a built-in competitive disadvantage.  Think Iowa State, Missouri, Minnesota, Purdue, etc.  Why do you think Rutgers and Maryland were so attractive to the Big 10?  They bring a bunch more eyeballs and give the Haves of the conference a couple more dummies to beat up on every year.

TCU is neither a large state school or a team that's easy to beat, and we're right in the middle of the most fertile recruiting ground in the country.  Triple whammy.
