Daily Skiff: Frogs defeat Lobos 6-2 behind Maxwell’s complete game
TCU won their twenty second game of the season behind the stellar performance of starting pitcher Steven Maxwell. Maxwell won his fifth game this season lowering his era to 3.00 on the season. He dominated the Lobos hitters scattering nine hits and two earned runs in his complete game. He had eight strikeouts and no walks. New Mexico drops to 10-22 on the year.
Every Horned Frog had a hit. Jason Coats and Jantzen Witte extended the hitting streaks to twelve and nine games respectively. The Frogs ran wild over New Mexico with five stolen bases including Jerome Pena stealing home in the bottom of the sixth inning; Two from Brance Rivera, Two from Jerome Pena, and one from Zac Jordan.
New Mexico struck first in the third. Centerfielder Sam Wilson hit a leadoff triple and was scored by shortstop Alex Allbritton on an RBI groundout. Maxwell shut down the Lobos in the next inning by striking out the side. They would not score again until the top of the ninth when Lobos leftfielder Luke Campbell hit a solo blast with two outs.
