CFB world reacts to questionable TCU hire

Story by Chris Novak

TCU earned a lot of goodwill and praise after their historic 2022 season. The Horned Frogs leapfrogged from a 5-7 season all the way into the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Now with 2023 approaching, the team is reorganizing. Through that though, they may have made a questionable hire.

The program has hired Kendal Briles to be their offensive coordinator. The move was rumored for some time but was made official on Thursday. Jamie Plunkett of Frogs Today tweeted the news. “TCU officially announces the hiring of Kendal Briles as offensive coordinator/quarterback coach.”

It doesn’t require too much thinking to understand why this might be a questionable hire. Kendal’s father, Art, is essentially persona non grata in college football (unless someone decides he’s not, naturally). A disgraceful scandal several years ago wrapped Art up as several high-ranking officials, including Briles, failed many after they failed to take action after alleged rapes and sexual assaults by Baylor Bears football players.

Did the world react when he was hired at:
Florida Atlantic?
Houston?
Florida State?
Arkansas?

But it’s questionable hire now?

It's part of the ESPN led conspiracy that favors blue blood, large state schools. Those with large fan bases that spend money. That is all. The same people that decry the NIL because they can't buy ALL the players, look for any reason to knock down any school that crashes their party.

ESPN absolutely does not want a small school without a very very large fan base to crash their god almighty club. Not one blow back on his hire at Houston or elsewhere only TCU. Open your eyes. Chris Childers on ESPN's full ride proclaimed TCU had no business in the playoffs this year. Not a mention of the win over Michigan. I believe they are told what to say by ESPN. The cartel that is college football will continue to be the blue blood programs until schools like TCU continue winning something they will try to stop at all costs

Baylor is Trash.

Chris Childers can go join Petros Papadakis in the "talks like a lawnmower" club.

And he can EAD.

About all I heard from ESPN was positive things leading up to that game. And then one guy chimes in on the worst blowout in bowl history and it’s been a conspiracy against TCU all along? If they wanted to keep TCU out at all costs we would not have been a playoff team, much less stayed at #3 after losing our CCG. And I haven’t seen much blowback at all from ESPN on this hire, it’s barely been a blip at ESPN.

Some of you must have homes made of tinfoil.

Yes, some did. Fact is, we don't generally pay attention to news concerning those programs. Simply because you didn't hear it does not mean it didn't happen.

Just because others have made bad choices does not mean that we should as well. But, we evidently have.

Arkansas has already hired Dan Enos as OC/QB coach. It appears he has a good track record at both OC and quarterback development, previously at Arkansas and at Alabama and Maryland. He coached both Tagovailoa’s. Looks like a good hire.

Well if you read the article, it does state that Taggert at Florida State had to defend the hire as well so yeah, apparently some of the world did react…now, whether that means the more local cfb world of Florida or what, I don’t know.

And I easily found articles that, at the time, stated his hiring at Houston was “problematic” and “sends the wrong message,” so again, the world questioned it.

Whether you’re for or against the hire, for any reason, the optics will most likely never be good with a Kendal Briles hire.
