P-47, toughest plane ever made.

B-17, 2nd toughest plane ever made.

B-52, listened to those suckers wind up every night for years when I lived near Carswell

Totally random factoid:
I'm named after my father's P-47 that he flew in WWII. I have a photo of him standing next to it and you can see the nose art.
Of course, I came along many, many years later!

On Jan. 16, before Desert Storm actually began, an unarmed 42nd ECS EF-111A crew accomplished the first aerial kill of the war. The Sparkvark was attacked by an Iraqi Mirage fighter while flying at night near the Saudi/Iraq border.

Of course, leave it to an "electric jet" pilot--and a guard pilot at that--to try and take the credit:

"There is no easy way to explain the experience, the rush, of piloting an F-15 Eagle jet fighter, peacetime or in combat.

"There is nothing else like it," said Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Jon K. Kelk, credited with the first Iraqi MiG-29 aerial "kill" of Desert Storm in January 1991."

F-15=Electric Jet???? In 18 of my 26 years in the USAFR, when given the opportunity to fly “against” the AD USAF, it was never even close. I had 9 former FWS instructors in my squadron, not just graduates, an active duty unit might have 2 graduates of FWS. Some things are just not fair. The article also states the BG was AD F15 pilot when he flew the mission in the article.
