Steel got a mechanical ascender. Yes Steel knows how to tie a prusik, and use it even. But after a crevasse fall, possibly with injury, the ascender is just a more reliable and easier alternative. $70. Weighs 7 oz.

Canyoneering? I sport climb so I carry a prusik loop but don't plan on ever needing an ascender unless I got into big wall/aid climbing.
