Yahoo! Sports: Sedona Prince not selected in 2025 WNBA Draft amid abuse allegations, concerns about age

With the 2025 WNBA Draft wrapped, a number of big NCAA stars found new homes in the league Monday. But a notable name stayed off the draft board, as TCU center Sedona Prince's name did not get called on draft night.

Despite being a dominant 6-foot-7 center — a rarity in the league — Prince was a controversial draft pick from the start. Prince has been accused of sexual and physical abuse from multiple ex-girlfriends and partners. If that wasn't enough, there were also concerns about Prince's age — she'll turn 25 in May — and her injury history.

But even with Prince's baggage, many outlets still had her going in at least the second round. Yahoo Sports' most recent mock draft projected Prince would be the final pick of the first round.

I would assume this is like other drafts and that she will be signed as a free agent by some team. Surely some team will take a chance on her. Perhaps they just were not willing to use a draft pick but still would want to sign her at a lower risk. I admit that I know nothing about the WNBA other than the owners seem to have a pact to mostly choose team names that do not end in "s."

I think she's unlikely to get a free-agent signing with a WNBA team due to the off-court issues. She was definitely worth a draft pick on talent--her win-share rating was top-5 among all college players and I've never seen her outside of the top 20 in mock drafts.

The WNBA differs from other pro leagues in that it has a single owner (the NBA). In this case, I think teams were told to steer clear to avoid a PR issue for a league that is more about image than income. Sedona will likely have to play overseas for a while.

The irony is that her class-action lawsuit against the NCAA and her social media posts pointing out resource inequities between men and women have had a huge practical impact for good in women's athletics.

The age stuff is a smokescreen, as are comments I saw in The Athletic about her poor performance against Texas.

Pretty good double standard by the NBA when they still have Ja Morant flashing gun taunts to opponents.

Sometimes she did not play well in the big games. 6 pts vs South Carolina and 4 pts vs UT. I wish her well though. I bet some WNBA team makes her an offer.

Not that I disagree with the sentiment, but do today's NIL starters really sacrificing anything? I mean, they are getting paid to do a job right?

That's the new disconnect to me... They are hired guns. Some will love TCU and we will love them back. Some will care less. But the thought of the student-athlete sacrificing when they are getting a scholarship, getting paid, living separately from the campus, seldom in any classes with students, etc... really chgs the narrative now doesn't it?
